I find that everything in nature exudes a quality particular to itself, and drawing and painting is discovering that distinct rhythm. I am interested in exploring how the interaction between objects makes a song, a pattern, a harmony. I heard Yo-Yo Ma describing a favorite quote of his by Pablo Casals, about how great music lives in the space between the notes. I feel it is similar with drawing—there can be just as much revealed in the space where no mark is made as in the drawing itself. It is this process of uncovering while striving for balance that makes drawing and painting compelling to me.
